Katarina Caspersen: Lily of the valley
(Piece 5, chain 1. In respose to Susan Sentler)
The work is a response to Susan Sentler’s artwork “A festa of reverie”. I was fascinated by Sentler’s video and how much texture it contains. I was inspired to work on textures myself. Her video is made with both moving and still images. The flow in this artwork gives me a feeling of the time is standing still, or if the times flies by very, very fast. This and the memento mori- feeling this film gave me, inspired me to play with different media.
My tools were a pencil, some crayons, a camera and my don-dominant hand: my left hand. My left hand is less precise, and I have less control over it. The lines gets more texture because it’s very difficult to make smooth movements. In my work I included some of the elements from Sentler’s film: the candle and the table. Nature too is present in both of us.
